4] Fibre Glass Covered Wires & Strips

The glass in Fibre Glass Conductor may be applied in woven tape form or as a continuous fibre. It has proved to be an efficient insulation providing coil winders with thermal stability, adequate electrical properties and good resistance to abrasion after varnishing. The glass is bonded with a varnish for dielectric strength to improve mechanical properties.

Glassfibre-lapped conductors (bare or enamelled) are very suitable for windings of electric motor stators,  generators,  special  transformers  and  high  voltage motors. In general this insulation  can be applied where high mechanical strength and high insulation properties are required. Most  common application is  in traction motors. It exhibits a very high degree of mechanical  and  thermal  stability,  either  for  class F  insulation  when  impregnated  with polyester or  epoxies or  for class H  insulation when impregnated with  silicone.

5] Cotton Covered Copper Wires & Strips

Cotton  covering  corresponds  to  class  Y  insulation (90 °C) and  in  view  of  its  good absorptive capacity, allows excellent combination with impregnating compounds, resulting      in excellent mechanical resistance. The cotton covering can be applied to bare wires and to enamelled wires as well.Basic application of cotton covered conductors are for instrument transformers and induction coils.

6] Kapton (Polyimide) Covered Conductors

Kapton  covered  conductors  offers a  wide range of  applications  in the construction of transformers  and  motors, specialy  in  traction motors and also in aerospace equipments  and  nuclear power  stations. They provide an insulation with high electrical, physical and mechanical performance over a temperature range of -196°C to +250°C.

Kapton films have following attributes:

  • antistat
  • thermally conductive
  • polyimides for fine line circuitry
  • cryogenic insulation
  • corona resistant
  • pigmented for color
  • conformable
Typical Applications:
  • Traction Motors
  • Mill Motors
  • Coal Cutter Motors
  • Sealed and Submersible Pump Motors
  • Stirrer Motors

7] Nomex Covered Copper Wires & Strips

Nomex  covering  corresponds to class H  insulation is  mainly used in  the construction of  condensers  and  capacitors. Main  application  of  it  is in shielding of cables in high  temp. environments (200°C)  such  as  dry  type  transformers,  military  and  aerospace  cables. Nomex covered conductors are more effective in condition where  temperature resistance   and dielectric strength  requirements  are  allowed.

8] Mica Covered Copper Wires & Strips

The mica  paper  consists of  tiny platelets of mica that are made into a paper. This paper      is extremely fragile and requires a carrier to render it usable, hence the polyester film. With respect to corona & thermal resistance requirements mica has shown itself to be the most suitable insulating  material. Mica  Covered  Conductors  available in round & rectangular section.

 Application of Mica Covered Conductors:

  • High Voltage Motors
  • Low Voltage Motors
  • Dry Type Transformers

9] Flats, Profiles & Commutator Bars

Copper Flats and profiles are  used for power, electrical and allied equipments. Electrical engineering basically makes use of these products extensively.

10] Field Coils

Most fusion devices nowadays feature normally conducting magnet coils made of copper.  The windings are insulated with fibre glass bands & moulded in synthetic resin,to connect them  together  and  give  the  coil  the necessary  mechanical  strength. The coil can thus withstand  the strong force exerted between the coils after the coil current is switched on . .
